Getting Back At It
Hey peeps! How are you all? Things are going well with me! The hubby and I had a fabulous anniversary vacation last week in Las Vegas and we had an amazing time! I'm not sure if I'll post a full vacation blog with pics since that will take a while, but here's a sum up with a few pics from my phone:
We flew out on Wednesday the 24th and flew back Monday the 29th of October. We ate WAY too much food and enjoyed many a beverage - it was amazing! We went to see Terry Fator who was incredible (if you don't know who he is, go to YouTube & check him out!) We also went to Zumanity by Cirque du Soleil which was fabulous!
I shopped & bought a new necklace at Tiffany's (YES Tiffanys!!! EEP!) I absolutely LOVE my new pretty necklace!!
We went for an anniversary dinner at Gordon Ramsey Steak (in the Paris) and had a meal that cost more than our truck payment - and it was worth every penny! I don't have any pics on my phone from this dinner, so I'm sorry about that. But it was a 5 course dinner complete with Ahi Tuna salad, french onion soup & a perfectly rare beef wellington for dinner PLUS wine pairing for each course!! Oh the hubby and I were happy peeps!
I got to see THE Eleanor from Gone in 60 Seconds and she was BEAUTIFUL! Yeah okay - I have a thing for really sexy cars! I tried to convince my hubby that we *REALLY* should spend the $375,000 so we could own her! hehe!
We ran a 5K Zombie Run on Sunday morning - where you either survive or you don't based on zombie's ripping flags off you! I got body-checked by a zombie who zigged the same way I zigged...I should have zagged...anyways, he took my last flag! Needless to say, Tom survived but I did not. OH and the Jabbawockeez from America's Best Dance Crew were the masters of ceremonies for the race, so they were all there AND they all ran the race with us! It was super fun!! But we had a BLAST! AND I got this killer new t-shirt (it even has my "kill count" on the back of it!)

Okay, so that's all the pics I've got from our trip on my phone - the rest are on the digital camera and may or may not get uploaded on Facebook. I really hate timeline and its a pain to organize pics, so I've been putting it off.
When we got back, we had a few relaxing "off diet days" to just get back into the groove of every day life which was really nice. Since we were so active in Vegas (and I really didn't eat that terribly) I only had a few pounds of water weight that fell off within a few days - woot! Starting on Sunday, we began a new eating plan that I'm really enjoying. I'm not hungry, not cranky and am already noticing more energy too! I've also totally stuck to the no soda/minimal caffeine thing (even in Vegas!) so I'm really proud of myself!!
I'm also totally proud of the hubby! He completely quit smoking over a month ago and went through the whole trip without a smoke! Woot! I'm so proud of him!! He is going to start training for a Mudder race next year and I'm going to train for a half marathon with him - so we'll be able to keep each other motivated and healthy! I know its only the first week, but its going well for both of us so far!
In other news, I'm still reading a TON of books - I just finished book #200 for the year! Yippee! I've always been a book nerd, but since we got rid of our TV in April, I've had more time to devote to reading and I love it! According to my Goodreads profile, I've read 200 books and over 72,080 pages this year so far! YAY!!! Its amazing how I can ALWAYS find something fun to read! I just read a series about professional sports players, which I never would have picked up normally - but I gave it a shot and really enjoyed it!
I'm still working the day job and teaching 7 zumba classes a week (2 adult classes and 5 for the after school kids) which is going well. I decided to cut myself some slack though and I will be leaving my adult classes within a few weeks. I need some more time to recover and 7 classes a week while training for a half was really pushing it for me. I'm thinking that backing down to 5 classes, plus the half training and regular lifting schedule will be good for me and hopefully I won't get burned out!
Financially, things are going great (even after our crazy Vegas shopping sprees! haha!) I came up with a budget that will have my car completely paid off my the end of the year (as in 2 months from now! WOOHOO!) Then once that's paid off, we're going to get our credit cards gone by the beginning of summer next year and start living our lives debt free! We'll still have the house & the truck payment - but other than that, life will be good! I am SO excited. We are getting ever closer to where we want to be!
Okay, so I think that's enough rambling for now - I'm sure I could type for another hour or so about the things I've been meaning to catch up on, but I don't have the time. Since its Voting Tuesday and I don't have my after school kids today - I ran an 11 min mile on my first break today and it felt damn good! I'm thinking I'll try to get at least one more mile in before I leave work. I'm gonna hang out with a buddy of mine this afternoon so I'm super antsy for the workday to be over! hehe!

A Well Needed Update
Okay, so I realized its been about 2 months since I've been in here....its about time I post a darn update. Life has been crazy busy. I'm still working full time at the day job, teaching 7 Zumba classes a week, being a wife (which sometimes is a full time job itself) and trying to maintain sanity.....oh, did I also mention that the hubby and I are training for a half marathon now too??? Yeah....so life is busy.
So here's a rundown of what's been going on since the last time I posted. First quarter of the after school program just ended - classes are going well. Not having my Adult Zumba class on Wednesdays is really helping me out this year. That was brutal last year and I didn't want to do it again.
This past weekend was the Duke City Marathon event and I signed up for the 20K walk (about 12.5 miles) with a friend of mine. The past few weeks I've been training to get up to distance for that one. 4 weeks ago, we went out for 8 miles of a run/walk. 2 weeks ago we went out for a full 13.1 miles (first time EVER I've gone that distance!) I was SO proud of myself!!! Its nice to know that I'm already capable of going the 13.1 distance and that over the next year I just need to work on speed! Woot!
YAY! So after that awesomeness, I still had the 20K walk to prepare for, which was yesterday. I had a blast, but I've decided that I won't EVER do a walk that long again. I'm a runner....I was bored as HELL only being able to walk the whole time. I actually started dancing to my IPOD while I was walking just to liven things up a bit - but then I got yelled at by the race coordinators because "dancing wasn't allowed".....next time....I sign up for a run! But anyways, it was a fun time. Here's the official results from the Duke City Site....I'm definitely pleased!

THIRD in my age group, average pace 16:25 min mile (which for a walk would be about 3.3-3.5 MPH on a treadmill consistently for over 3 hours), 3:23:51 total chip time from start to finish (which coincided with my Garmin Forerunner, so I'm pleased)
So....today I'm sore as hell. Have some BEAUTIFUL blisters on my feet and my hips are sore, so I'm waddling like an old lady. But overall, I'm in a great mood! Wahoo! The only tricky part about today....I've got a Zumba class tonight at 530....hopefully I'm able to get loose by then! I picked up a Gellie roller through Active.com so I think I might end up attacking my legs like a rolling pin before class today to see if that helps!
I think that's about it for now. I'm taking a few days off work this week so I'm looking forward to some well needed downtime with the hubby! Hope you're all having a great day!
So since it was run/walk and official race training, I'm adding my mileage from the past few weeks into my yearly review, even if it wasn't 100% running

UGH - Monday again already???
So it was a good weekend - though too short as always. Saturday, I got out for an awesome interval run! It was nice to be running outdoors again!! That workout looked like this:
Warm Up - 5 min walk
Run for 20 minutes
Walk for 5 minutes
Run for 10 minutes
Walk for 5 minutes
Run for 5 minutes
Cool Down walk back to the house
Total Workout Time: 1 hour
Total Distance Ran: 3.83 miles
Today, I'm back at work. Nutrition is back on track after going a little wonky yesterday. I knocked out the Chest & Back Kettlebell workout today at lunch, but it didn't feel like much of a challenge, so I think I need to increase my weights with it. Tonight is Zumba, which should be super fun. Otherwise, just trying to relax and chill as much as possible - after school program starts in 2 weeks! EEP!

YAY Friday!!
Okay - only have time for a quick update. Got the KT tape, put it on my Achilles & noticed a difference within an hour of putting it on - so I'm sold! Granted, its bright blue so I look like I'm walking around with Painter's tape attached to my foot - but as long as it works, I don't care.
Got in a kettlebell "arms" workout at lunch today and feel good! Its been a while since I've done that workout, so I'm happy I got it done today. Completed it with a 10lb kettlebell (that damn thing gets heavy by the end of it!) and now I'm ready for a nap! haha!
Only 1.5 hours until my weekend! I can't wait!! Totally antsy to get out today :-)

Happy Thursday!!
Okie Dokie!! So I've been good this week! Got a workout in every day so far - so I'm happy about that! Yesterday, I had Zumba and today was a running day! Even though I was feeling super lazy, I still got my butt on the treadmill and feel great afterwards. My work is serving Fuddruckers as a site picnic today - so at least I've offset the yummy burger I'm about to chow down on! haha!
Eating has been good the past few days. Between cutting my sodium and being in the middle of TOM, I'm dropping water weight which makes me feel better. I'm thinking next week will be an official weigh in with measurements just to see where I'm at.
Not really much else to update. I'm reading my new Hunter book - which is amazing! It also means that my brain doesn't have much energy for blogging as I want to read ALL the time! haha!
Okay - here's my workout, so I can get back to my Nook & my Hunters
Warm Up - 7 min walk (I had some extra time today, so I spent extra time warming up to help my ankle out)
Run for 3 minutes at 5 MPH and 2 minutes at 5.5 MPH
Walk for 3 minutes at 3.5 MPH
Run for 3 minutes at 5 MPH and 2 minutes at 5.5 MPH
Walk for 3 minutes at 3.5 MPH
Run for 2.5 minutes at 5.0 MPH, 1.5 minutes at 5.5 and 60 seconds at 6.0
Cool Down walk for 5 minutes
Total Distance: 2.39 miles
Total Workout Time: 35 minutes
Ankle was still feeling a little wonky today. I'm gonna look into getting the KT athletic tape and see if that will help me out more than keeping it wrapped during workouts. I'll be sure to take pics once I get it successfully taped up
Okay - off to more meetings (busy work day for me) - then home to finish my Hunters! Hope you have a great day!

Back on track (again)
Hey peeps! How are you all? I'm doing well! After a crazy few weeks spent celebrating my birthday - with numerous dinners out and a surprise party my amazing hubby threw for me, food is finally back on track. This week is TOM, so I'm bloated & squishy anyways, so I'm going to take measurements & weight either the end of this week or Friday of next week, just to allow things to settle down and get myself a true starting point.
I'm cooking more at home again which has been really awesome. Tonight for dinner, I'm making a homemade veggie lasagna with zucchini & mushrooms (and only 300 cals a serving!!!) I'm gonna make 2 pans of it - one to serve for dinner tonight (we have friends coming over too) and the other I'll split up for lunches at work for the rest of the week! Planning ahead has its perks!
Anyways, this week also began my serious Hilly-Get-Your-Ass-Back-In-Shape plan. The Dirty Dash is less than a month away. Last month, I tweaked my ankle in Zumba & my Achilles tendon on my left ankle hasn't been the same since - thus it slowed down my training. Well this week, I started my no excuses plan. I'm ready to feel strong again, but I'm not going to push myself to cause further injury. I'm not going to use my ankle as an excuse not to go running anymore...however, I am using it as a *reason* to slow down and take things slowly. I can't afford to wreck my body, and I definitely don't want to either :-)
Yesterday, on my lunch break at work - a coworker & I rocked out the "Legs" workout with the kettlebells. It was SO hot in the gym, but it was definitely a nice workout (and I'm feeling some nice DOMS in my legs, glutes & shoulders today from it) After work, I had Zumba class, which was really nice as well. I had lots of built up energy and I definitely let it out in class.
Today was a running day. I tried to push the speeds in the 3rd interval - and was comfortably running at 6 MPH, but by the 4th interval my tummy was wonky (still have traces of a stomach bug from a few days ago) and my ankle wasn't feeling so hot, so I had to keep the last interval at 5 MPH. Either way, the workout was done and I'm happy about that! I'm thinking I need to start wrapping my ankle for running & Zumba classes, just for some added stability. There are a few tendons you really don't want to f*ck up, and at the top of the list is the Achilles tendon....if I don't take care of this now, my legs won't be the same if I hurt this more. So for now, easy fun runs and lots of kettlebells! Woot!
Warm Up
Run for 3 minutes at 5.0 MPH
Walk for 90 Seconds at 3.5 MPH
Run for 5 minutes at 5.0 MPH
Walk for 2.5 minutes at 3.5 MPH
Run for 3 minutes starting at 5.0 MPH and gradually getting to 6.0 MPH
Walk for 90 Seconds
Run for 5 minutes at 5.0 MPH
Cool Down
Total Distance Ran: 1.82 Miles
Total Workout Time: 24 minutes
All in all, things are going well. I need to slowly get everything back on track and things will be good. I'm still reading like crazy, which is helping me stay sane. I've been in a steampunk mood, so most of my books have been revolving around that - and I'm loving it! I just finished one about steampunk pirates on airships! How fun is that?!?!
As far as races go, I have the Dirty Dash coming up soon - which will be fun. With my ankle, I'll run what I can and walk what I can't run - either way, I'll finish and it will be super fun - I'm not running it for time, just the experience. I have a friend doing a 20K walk in October and I might do that with her. That will require less training than trying to do a running race and it would be nice to do that with her. The entry for it is $49 - which isn't too bad. I'll have to talk to the hubby and see if he wants to do the run.
Anyways, enough rambling for me! Hope you all have a great day!!

Happy Second Monday!
So we've concluded at work that Tuesdays are basically a do-over of Mondays - so we lovingly call them Second Mondays...the torturous beasts that they are....
That being said, I think its fairly obvious why Tuesdays are my running days at work. Its my time to decompress, relieve some stress & get some exercise while I'm at it. Thankfully, we have a gym at work that's nicely equipped with 2 treadmills, an elliptical, 3 stationary bikes, a stairmaster, a full dumbbell rack (10lbs up to 50lbs) & bench, weight machines & mats - so its easy for me to sneak in a workout here when I'm not being a lazy ass.
Today I had built up energy that I needed to get out - and the treadmill was my mode of relief. I snuck over on my first break and got in a nice mile. Ran the first 3/4 of it at an easy 5.0 MPH (12 min mile pace) and then sped it up to a 6.0 MPH (10 min mile pace) for the last quarter mile - for a total run time of 11:36. It felt good and I'm antsy for more. Maybe I'll be able to sneak away later & knock out another mile or two before the day is over! Woot!!
Tonight, we have friends coming over for dinner & I'm planning a healthy Shepherd's Pie (still been craving it!), roasted asparagus and a fabulous fruit salad for dessert....and bought a big bottle of wine for the occasion! Hehe!! Now just a matter of getting through the work day. Meh....

Alrighty - so here I am - trying to get my head on straight. I've been working on de-stressing myself for the past few weeks and I'm thinking things are finally improving. I'm still reading like a crazy person - I'm up to 113 books this year so far & think I need to update my 2012 Goal on goodreads (which is currently 150 books!) I am loving the release & peace that comes from losing myself in a good book.
In other news - I cut my hair this weekend, just to even out all the length while it grows out. I also was getting bored with the color - I swear the changed the formulas of the reds that I used to use...they just don't last as long and aren't as vibrant as I remember. So now my hair is a nice chocolate reddish brown - which makes my eyes super green. I'm enjoying it!
I deleted my Spark account. I decided that my success shouldn't matter on how supportive someone else is (though I love the positivity I get from my friends & family) - I found that I would feel pressured to track, label & push myself to count calories, SparkPoints, blog & update consistently. I was getting obsessive. Since I deleted the account, I feel better and I haven't regretted that choice. I met some incredible people on Spark who are now my friends on Facebook - now I can keep in touch with them there.
OH and Deanna - thank you SO much for your amazing comments!! Blogger is stupid and I can't respond directly to your posts, but I read each and every one of them!! It seems like we are in a similar place with tracking (or actually not tracking) things!!! I'm glad I found you on FB so we can still chat even though I'm not on Spark anymore!!
I've also stopped wearing my BodyBugg & Heart Rate Monitors - now I workout & move for the joy it brings me, not because of anything else. I love the strength I get from my workouts and I don't need a damn machine telling me whether or not I've been successful. The only thing I'm tracking now is my running mileage (simply because that makes it easier for me to figure out when I need new running shoes and because I'm proud of those miles - I earn every single one of them!)
I got my nutrition back on track today & picked up some cookbooks to help keep me on track. I've had the stupidest craving for Shepherd's Pie & Irish Soda Bread (perhaps because I'm reading books set in England & Scotland???) so I'll be making a healthy version one of these nights. I also raided Costco and their amazing produce section - I got watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, king fisher melons, mangos, plums, kiwis, strawberries, purple grapes, raspberries, blackberries, pineapple, asparagus & snow peas!! I am so excited!! I will be attacking all those melons this afternoon so that they're all prepped & ready for lunches this week. I love summer & all the wonderful fruits & veggies out this time of year!!!
I hit the treadmill at lunch today as well - this did WONDERS for my mood & I feel incredible after it. I haven't regularly ran in weeks, so I wasn't sure what workout I wanted to do - so I started out with Week 4 Workout 1 and it worked great. I went fast enough to push myself, but it wasn't overly strenuous either. I ran at a nice 12 min mile pace (except for the last 2 mins which was a 10 min mile pace) - it made me happy and brought me SO much joy! I am tempted to sneak away and run another mile on my last break today
Warm Up
Run for 3 minutes at 5.0 MPH
Walk for 90 Seconds at 3.5 MPH
Run for 5 minutes at 5.0 MPH
Walk for 3 minutes at 3.5 MPH
Run for 3 minutes at 5.0 MPH
Walk for 90 Seconds at 3.5 MPH
Run for 5 minutes (first 3 minutes were 5.0 MPH and last 2 minutes were 6.0 MPH)
Cool Down
Total Distance: 1.75 miles
Total Time 23 Minutes
Total Calories Burned: I don't give a shi*t - I don't bother tracking that anymore, now I just run for the joy of it!
I am enjoying where life is taking me now - for the first time in a long time, I'm comfortable with who I am and what I'm capable of. That doesn't mean that I still won't strive for my best self, but it means that I'm going to be enjoying the journey for once.

Total Amount of Joy I've Found From My Running Shoes: Priceless!!!!
Its been a while...
Okay, so I know its been a while since I have posted here. A lot has happened in the past month and I'm slowly learning more about myself - which is a fabulous thing. I've been reading like crazy - already devoured 87 books this year! EEP! And I've been loving every minute of it - reading brings me a peace that is hard to find elsewhere (unless I'm on a treadmill)
We had taken in some friends as roommates - which caused me to become more reclusive than I've been in a long time. I had nowhere to go that was mine alone. My home gym was taken over by their boxes, my beloved treadmill was moved into the dining room & my living room was taken over by everyone's computers. Needless to say, I spent most of my time the past few months laying in bed reading. No bueno...due to unforeseen circumstances, the roommates had to move out and I'm comfortable again
The after school program has ended for the summer and I've already signed on to start again in September for next year (woot!) I got great feedback from the program and I'm looking forward to bringing it back. I'm still teaching 3 days a week at Curves and I'm loving their new owner - she is a total sweetheart!
Due to stress, I really wasn't paying attention to nutrition at all for weeks, but thankfully my weight maintained the same 5 pound fluctuation that it usually does, so all in all - I can't complain. In my months of hiding & reading, I wasn't moving around as much as I was used to - which made me cranky & restless.
Hubby and I signed up for a race in September, so training needed to start. I haven't ran since the Warrior Dash. I also got myself on a solid meal plan 2 weeks ago, and the weight is coming down again (I'm down about 4 pounds in almost 2 weeks - which is a good rate of loss) I started running again today on lunch with a coworker, which felt amazing to get back to it....I know I always say it, but I love running
Here's today's workout (I forgot to track my mileage when we finished, but I'm guessing it was about 1.5-1.75 miles - oops!)
Warm Up
Run for 60 seconds at 5.5
Walk at 3.5 for 90 seconds
Run for 60 seconds at 5.5
Walk at 3.5 for 90 seconds
Run for 60 seconds at 5.5
Walk at 3.5 for 90 seconds
Run for 60 seconds at 5.5
Walk at 3.5 for 90 seconds
Run for 60 seconds at 6.0
Walk at 3.5 for 90 seconds
Run for 60 seconds at 6.0
Walk at 3.5 for 90 seconds
Run for 60 seconds at 6.5
Walk at 3.5 for 90 seconds
Run for 60 seconds at 7.0
Walk at 3.5 for 90 seconds
Cool Down
Total Time: 22 Minutes
Amount of happy this workout gave me - priceless!
I'm going to slowly start updating here again the more I get back on track. I've been absent from Spark, and though I miss the regular updates from friends - I'm doing okay without it. I noticed I started feeling better the more I backed away from social networking - which probably means that I need to continue to stay away from it. I'm really liking the way life is going, so I'm thinking I'll keep updating this for the few readers I've got (including myself) and Facebook simply because that's where everyone is.
I've also backed away from tracking - its not healthy for me as I can become totally obsessive with a number. I have a general range of calories I hit, and its working. I've stopped wearing my BodyBugg, as I'm tired of being reminded of how "lazy" I am whenever I try to relax. To me - that wasn't living. I'm appreciating and enjoying things a lot more when I'm not so focused on what I'm doing & how much I'm burning. I'm noticing I'm moving more simply because I want to - not because I have to. I aim to be naturally healthy, not healthy because some device tells me that I am - and so far its working. I'm enjoying everything this past month has brought me, even if its been tough at times.
Hope everyone has a great day!

Life's been busy - but I promise I'll update when I get the chance. I'm officially a Warrior - hubby and I finished the Warrior Dash this past weekend, and I'm bruised & sore as hell. And I've created a monster....hubby is already researching other obstacle runs because he had so much fun doing the last one.
Anyways, I found these online, posted by someone I really admire - and wanted to make sure I posted them in a place where I'll never lose them. Here's the 20 rules to live & govern by:
1. If you’re afraid to fight, then you’ll never win.
2. In times of tragedy and turmoil, you’ll learn who your true friends are. Treasure them because they are few and far between.
3. Know your enemies and never become your worst one.
4. Be grateful for your enemies. They will keep you honest and ever striving to better yourself.
5. Listen to good advice, but never substitute someone else’s judgement for your own.
6. All men and women lie. But never lie to yourself.
7. Many will flatter you. Befriend the ones who don’t.
8. Never fear the truth. It’s the lies that will destroy you.
9. Your worst decisions will always be those that are made out of fear.
10. Your mistakes won’t define you, but your memories, good and bad, will.
11. Be grateful for your mistakes as they will tell you who you’re not.
12. Don’t be afraid to examine the past, it’s how you learn what you don’t want to do again.
13. There’s a lot to be said for not knowing better.
14. All men die. Not everyone lives.
15. On your deathbed, your greatest regrets will be what you didn’t do.
16. Don’t be afraid to love. Yes, it’s a weakness that can be used against you. But it’s also a source of the greatest strength you will ever know.
17. The past is history written in stone that can’t be altered. The future is transitory and never guaranteed. Today is the only thing you can change for certain. Make the most of it.
18. You can be in a crowd, surrounded by people, and still be lonely.
19. Love all, regardless of what they do. Trust only those you have to. Harm none until they harm you.
20. Never be afraid to kill or destroy your enemies. They would not hesitate to kill or destroy you.

Another great running day
So as usual - I love my running days. There's just nothing that compares to them. The amount of awesomeness that comes from a good run just can't be found anywhere else. The only downside - I wore a different pair of sneakers today....and I'm fearing that I might have some fabulous blisters on my left foot. My foot started bugging me halfway through my run today, but I just couldn't bring myself to stop and I ran through the uncomfort.
Either way - it was blissfully amazing - just running and ignoring everything else that's going on. Weight is starting to drop back down again - and this is making me happy.
Week 5 Day 3:
Warm Up
Run for 20 minutes at 5 MPH
Cool Down
Total Workout Time: 25 Minutes
Total Calories Burned: 320 Calories
Total Distance Ran: 1.83 miles
Things are going well and I'm happy right now! Not much else going on here. Life is busy, but in a good way.

A Post For A Friend
Here is a post, written by a friend David Haas regarding exercise and its benefits to cancer treatments. There's lots of great information here - so enjoy everyone!! Exercise ALWAYS has its benefits, and this just reinforces how healing it truly can be!
Exercise Can Help During Cancer Treatment
In the past, doctors and health care personnel encouraged cancer patients to rest and take it easy following a cancer diagnosis or during treatment. But it's now known that exercise is very beneficial to cancer patients, whether newly diagnosed or going through mesothelioma treatment or treatment for another type of cancer. The American College of Sports Medicine recommends that you use a variety of fitness to provide you with useful benefits throughout your treatment program for cancer. The following considerations can assist you in choosing the activities that are best for you.
Increase the Things You Need More Of
Many people with cancer find themselves running short on energy during a time in which they really need it. Exercise might be one of the last things you think of when you're feeling tired, but it can actually be one of the best tools for fighting fatigue. When you're feeling tired or depleted of energy, start off by taking a walk. Speed and intensity aren't important; just move your body. If you begin to feel revitalized, pick up your pace or walk a little farther.
Decrease the Undesirables
Stress, nausea and joint stiffness are common symptoms and side effects experienced during cancer treatment. Use appropriate types of exercise to help you ease them. Yoga, Pilates, swimming and Tai Chi are more gentle forms of exercise that are beneficial to your body and your mind. Even 10 minutes per day can help you reduce stress, gain greater range of motion and find relief from nausea.
Gauge Your Feelings
Exercise according to how you're feeling each day. Some days you might have the energy to exercise for a longer period of time at a more intense level. Other days, it can be a chore just to lift your feet. Gauge the type of fitness you participate in to how you're feeling so you can make improvements, instead of adding more stress.
Variety is the Spice of Life
Prevent exercise boredom by trying different types of exercise on different days. Alternate aerobic exercise with resistance exercise each day to help you build muscle strength and cardiovascular health. A well-rounded physical fitness plan is most effective for building your health and addressing your individual needs.
Just as there's not one cancer treatment that works perfectly for everyone, there's no cookie cutter exercise program that works best for all. The most effective fitness program to use during treatment is the one that addresses your individual needs. Use the way you feel physically and emotionally as your guide to dictate the amount and type of exercise you incorporate into your daily routine. In doing this, exercise becomes a powerful tool in your toolbox to help you look and feel the best you possibly can. Fitness during cancer has the potential to make you feel empowered and it helps to place control over how you feel back into your hands. Use exercise in a way that works best for you so you can create a greater focus on wellness and well-being.

Crappy Days Make The Best Runs
So its been a rough few weeks at work. The company I worked for has decided to consolidate their business and that's making my job harder. There's just lots of junky things going on and its really getting to be hard to make it through the day with a positive attitude. Today I had meetings for 3 hours straight where the consolidation was discussed. Needless to say, my brain was mush after that.
I had planned on running at lunch today. The plan was to do another interval day since I did a longer solid run on Tuesday. I wasn't sure which workout I'd do, I figured I'd wing it depending on how I was feeling after all my meetings. Well, I was grumpy. I didn't want to do anything. The intervals still sounded appealing - only because I could have walking breaks.
For some silly reason, I started the Week 5 Day 3 (solid 20 min run) workout on the IPOD on the way back to the gym. Even when I started my warm up, I still wasn't convinced I was going to run the whole 20 minutes. But somehow - I channeled all that frustration into one of the best runs ever. The 20 minutes flew by and I had a steady effortless pace the whole time. It took me a few minutes to find my groove, but once I did - the run was amazing. I sang along with my music, cleared my head and thought about the things that were really bugging me. Granted, the issues are still on my brain, but I'm not as grumpy anymore - which is progress.
Week 5 Day 3:
Warm Up
Run for 20 minutes at 5 MPH
Cool Down
Total Workout Time: 26 Minutes
Total Calories Burned: 320 Calories
Total Distance Ran: 1.83 miles
Overall - great workout. Still kinda crappy day, but great workout. I have one class this afternoon that should be super fun and then one class tomorrow afternoon. So a nice way to ease into the weekend for sure!
Miles Ran Towards A Better Me in 2012: 9.82 Miles

Another great running day
So nutrition has been off the past few days - can't really control that. Just accepting it for what it is - and moving on. Yesterday, Zumba was canceled due to not many people signing up (since it was Easter Monday) so hubby took me on an unexpected date night!! We went to see "The Hunger Games"!! SO good!!!
I've decided I'm going to do the best I can with nutrition - try not to stress about it, but enjoy training for my Warrior Dash & getting back into running. I'm trying to turn things around so I'm not stressing about things as much. There's lots of things I can't change, so there's no point worrying about them. Hopefully this will help me zen out a little bit. I've been reading a lot recently and that's been really helpful with keeping my head on straight.
Today I didn't have time to pack a lunch, but I picked up food on the way to work. Not the best - but I couldn't change it, so I'm trying to not get upset about it. Not super hungry after it either - which I guess can be a good thing.
The BEST news of the day - its a running day!! I decided to tackle Week 5 Day 3 today - the solid 20 min run. This one is always a little daunting considering everything before is always intervals. This is the first continuous stretch. I had no doubt that I could do it - but its always a push the first time. I struggled a little bit about halfway through it because I was distracted (there were others in the gym who were trying to talk to me - so I couldn't really get in a groove. But once I found it - it was amazing. NO issues at all!
Week 5 Day 3:
Warm Up
Run for 20 minutes at 5 MPH
Cool Down
Total Workout Time: 25 Minutes
Total Calories Burned: 310 Calories
Total Distance Ran: 1.85 miles
Feels good and I'm already looking forward to my run on Thursday! Yippee!
Miles Ran Towards A Better Me in 2012: 7.99 Miles
Total Calories Burned: 1420 Calories Burned
I've decided I'm going to do the best I can with nutrition - try not to stress about it, but enjoy training for my Warrior Dash & getting back into running. I'm trying to turn things around so I'm not stressing about things as much. There's lots of things I can't change, so there's no point worrying about them. Hopefully this will help me zen out a little bit. I've been reading a lot recently and that's been really helpful with keeping my head on straight.

Another Amazing Run!
So Happy Thursday!!! Today is a great day - its my mommy's birthday, so we're going out to dinner with her, woke up to another drop in the scale (5.2 pounds in total so far!) AND today is a running day! Yippee!
SO - since its mommy's birthday and we're doing dinner, today is an "off diet" day. I'm eating normally but within reason. This morning had a burrito from work and had a muffin as a snack. We are going to a local NM restaurant for a late lunch which is going to be fabulous. Not expecting a drop in the scale today - but I'm not worried. It will all be water anyways. There's almost no way I can overeat the surplus I've already created this week :-D
Today at lunch, I knocked out another running workout and once again - it felt incredible. I made it through the Week 5 Day 2 workout with ease - I wish I had more time on lunches, I'd keep running longer!
Today's Workout:
Warm Up
Run for 8 minutes at 5.0 MPH
Walk for 5 minutes at 3.5 MPH
Run for 7 minutes at 5.0 MPH and 1 minute at 5.5 MPH (total 8 mins running)
Cool Down
Total Distance: 1.77 miles
Total Calories Burned: 300
Total Workout Time: 26 Minutes
In other news, I decided to finally read this little book called "The Hunger Games" - there's a lot of hype about it, and I finally got curious. Well....it lives up to the hype. I'm definitely enjoying reading it and got totally sucked into it! Its a really cool world that the author has created!
Anyways, that's it for me. I don't have Zumba tonight or tomorrow and I will probably be scarce throughout the weekend - but hopefully everyone has a great few days! Maybe another run will happen this weekend!

You ever have one of THOSE days?!?!?!?
So today is just shaping up to be totally awesome *rolls eyes*
This morning - the alarm clock decided it was going to switch to daylight savings (for the second time this week) and woke me up an hour early. I didn't realize it - got completely ready for my day before I looked at my phone. UGH! Dammit! Normally - I would have done a workout - but its Wednesday, so I've gotta save my energy. So I trudged back to bed and layed there for 45 minutes until it was time to get up - never fell back asleep.
Needless to say - a new alarm clock will be purchased this weekend.
So after all that awesomeness, I managed to pack myself a decent lunch - with a fair amount of calories to get me through the day (would have been about 1900 cals if I'd eaten it all) However, about 2 hours ago, I had the worst "I don't want to eat this stuff" moment. UGH! I've eaten so much fruit & veggies in the past 3 days, I literally didn't want any more. And you know why....because it was all mushy. Yup. I had a craving for something crunchy and none of my food even looks appetizing.
So I caved - its Wednesday and I need all the fuel I can get. I got some sweet potato fries from the cafe at work (technically they ARE still vegan) with a small amount of ranch dressing (not vegan but I don't care) With taking out what I didn't eat today, and adding in the fries - it put me right at 1550 calories for the day (so currently LESS than what I was going to eat of my mushy foods anyways) Anyways, I'm not trying to justify my crappy eating - but oddly enough, I feel better after it and my fruit still doesn't look appetizing at all, so I know I did the right thing today. I need all the energy I can get at the moment. Sleep deprivation does NOT do me wonders - need sweet potato fuel & caffeine to survive today :-D

Running Rocks!
Okay - today was a running day and I feel amazing afterwards! No issues at all - knees felt great, body felt energetic, head was clear, breathing was calm....overall, the perfect run!!! I didn't push to go faster, I ran at a comfortable 5.0 MPH the whole time and it was awesome. I kept the lights in the gym off, so the room was filled with the soft natural light coming from the snowstorm outside. It literally was perfect. I could have easily kept going and going and going....I just didn't want to stop, especially since that meant I had to go back to work :-P
Since the Week 4 workout was a little easy for me last week, I decided to jump into Week 5 Day 1 today - which was 3 running intervals of 5 minutes a piece
Warm Up
Run at 5.0 MPH for 5 minutes
Walk at 3.5 MPH for 3 minutes
Run at 5.0 MPH for 5 minutes
Walk at 3.5 MPH for 3 minutes
Run at 5.0 MPH for 5 minutes
Cool Down
Total Calories Burned: 300
Total Distance Ran: 1.66 miles
Total Workout Time: 24 minutes
In other news, today we got hit with a random April snow storm. Not sure if I'll have my classes this afternoon or not. If it turns out I don't have my classes, I might hit the treadmill again just so I can average a good cardio burn for the day. Not sure if I'll be able to find that awesome perfection again, but I can sure try.

Things are getting better...
Hey there! So after a rather rough week last week - things are improving. There was a huge rainstorm here last night and I feel like I finally got a good nights sleep (I sleep like the dead when it rains) Today is Day 2 of my 21 Day Vegan Nutrition Jump Start challenge. Yesterday, I was kinda grumpy about it - just not really feelin' it. But after work, I went to the farmers market & Sunflower to stock up on fresh foods. I got kiwis, mangos, watermelon, plums, grapefruit, apples, sweet potatoes & lots of other goodies (lara bars were on sale too!) After picking up all that amazing food - it was hard to NOT get excited about the next few weeks!
AND after my fabulous workout last night, and a killer nights sleep, I woke up to a 3lb drop on the scale this morning! Woot! THAT definitely feels good!! I always felt amazing while I was eating vegan - and once again, it took less than 24 hours for my body to turn around again!! Wahoo!!! Definitely a happy camper!! I'm going to do my best to track all my foods on this challenge, but the glorious thing about vegan is that its almost impossible to eat at a surplus - so I'm just gonna eat when I'm hungry :-)
Today is a running day - as well as 2 of my After School classes - so will definitely get lots of movement in. I'll post my running workout after its completed. Yesterday - with being entirely lazy for most of the day (except for Zumba class) I burned 2,998 calories, walked 8,307 steps and had 2:42 minutes of activity - I guess wandering around the grocery stores for an hour definitely helps with calorie burns!

Good Day
Hey everyone - sorry I've been scarce. Its just been a stupid busy week and there's been lots going on. Nutrition has been so-so but never a surplus with what I'm burning - which is good. Some days are higher than others, but I guess it all averages out. I've been super tired recently so I'm looking forward to some downtime this weekend so I can rest up.
Today, I had a great running workout on my lunch break - figured it was better to do a structured program, so I jumped back into the C25K program. Since I am already conditioned a little bit, I started back up on Week 4 of the program which worked out really well. It was nicely challenging - not too easy, and not too hard.
Here's the Workout:
Warm Up
Run for 3 minutes at 5.5+ MPH (I forgot exactly how fast I went)
Walk for 90 Seconds at 3.5 MPH
Run for 5 minutes at 5.0 MPH
Walk for 3 minutes at 3.5 MPH
Run for 3 minutes at 5.0 MPH
Walk for 90 Seconds at 3.5 MPH
Run for 5 minutes at 5.0 MPH
Cool Down
Total Workout Time: 25 Minutes
Total Calories Burned: 315
Total Mileage: 1.71 miles
It felt great to get back to a structured program - it was easier to push myself knowing the goals I needed to hit, instead of just running and trying to figure out how I was gonna eventually hit 5K.
In other news - I'm feeling totally BLEAH today. Just kinda off. I'm off work in about 15 minutes and hoping that a nice lunch and a nap before Zumba class once I'm off will help with that.
Anyways, that's about it for me - yay for running. I need to keep it up. My body always feels better after a good run
Miles Ran Towards A Better Me in 2012: 2.71 Miles
Total Calories Burned: 510

Today's been a hard day....
So as my title states - its been a rough 24 hours for us. Yesterday, I found out the company I work for is closing 7 of its 24 sites and cutting 3300+ jobs. While my site isn't one of the ones being shut down, it still has a huge impact on the business. Then, got a text from another friend this morning - his job has been eliminated and he was demoted (though still currently employed the demotion means he can't afford to pay his bills). Then this afternoon, another friend reported issues at her job as well. What the hell is going on?!? I don't think that my brain can handle any more employment/job issues today.
Hubby and I have been spending the whole day talking about how important it is to keep on track with our debt payoff plans. Seeing others being impacted like this just goes to show that we don't ever really know how safe any of our jobs are and we should take advantage of them while we can. We are really going to buckle down and get things paid off in the next few months.
In other news, I've been feeling junky for a few days now. With my new mode of BC that I started a few weeks ago - TOM is right around the corner and all the joys that come with it are wreaking havoc on my body for the first time in over 4 years....sometimes I hate being a girl. I'm grumpy, bloated & generally cranky....bleah....due to TOM and less than stellar nutrition since the kiddo is here, weight is up a little bit higher than usual...so ready for that to drop off and things to get back to normal
The kiddo has been with us all week, and I love having him here. Today we went to the dinosaur museum and had a blast! It will be sad to see him leave again in a few days. Not sure what the plans are tonight, but we're probably going out to dinner with some friends and hanging out a little bit.
Last bit of information, the coordinator for the After School program has asked me to lead a ZumbAtomic demonstration at the yearly Expo for our city at the end of April!! Its a HUGE opportunity to not only display what I've been doing with the program, but it will also get my name out there for additional opportunities. This is an amazing opportunity and definitely some motivation to keep nutrition in line. I wanna be able to confidently sport my ZumbaWear around the Expo - so this extra pudge needs to come off ASAP
That's about it - time to go chill with my boys :-)

A General Update...
Okay - so its about time for a general update from me....after my "oh crap" nutrition moment last week, things are going well. I've been eating more and have more energy which is awesome.
This past weekend was kinda full of junky food though. Drove to Arizona to pick up the kiddo for Spring break. Even though it was only 1 night, it was awesome for the hubby and I to get out of town and spend some time together. On the drive out there Friday night, he and I talked for the WHOLE 5 hours about everything & nothing in general - literally, no music, no nothing - just us talking & enjoying each others company. Sometimes with our busy lives, getting a road trip together is the best opportunity to talk.
We talked about finances (planning on being debt free - with the exception of the house & truck - by the end of the year) We talked about what we'd do once we didn't have monthly expenses like car payments & credit cards - we'd travel, he'd go back to school and not have to take out loans, we'd finally start making improvements to the house, we'd be able to live the life we've been working so hard for over the past 5 years.
We talked about our future & maybe adding a kiddo into the mix eventually - but not yet. We both think it isn't right to have a child without having financial security first - we think that anyone who has a kid without being having a stable household is incredibly selfish - plus we want to travel a little bit before we do that. We talked about health and our long term well-being - how we want to change our lives so we can be around longer for each other, and our kiddos in the future.
Road trips rock for amazing conversation! That night when we got to Arizona, we checked into our hotel and went out to dinner. We picked this little organic/fresh produce pizza place that was amazing!! Here's a pic of my pizza:
Whole wheat crust, pesto, goat cheese, pine nuts, shrimp & scallops!!! Incredible!
The next morning we bummed around town - went to Barnes & Noble (I found a fabulous Boba Fett Bobblehead for $9), a killer little store called Bookmans (Tom found me some Vampire Hunter D figures for $8), wandered around Hastings (I found a book I've been looking for for MONTHS!) and killed time at Target where we got some legos. Then we grabbed food with the kiddo and hit the road.
On the drive back, we started noticing my loyal IPOD of 7+ years was starting to lag. Its been freezing during my classes (so I've been using my nano for a few weeks) but on the trip it was really starting to freak out. We came to the conclusion that, even though we could put the money towards bills - I need a working IPOD for my classes, so once we got back into town we went straight to the Apple Store. I picked out a new black 160g IPOD Classic and I LOVE it!
After the Apple Store, we went to dinner at Elephant Bar. I wasn't super hungry - so I got some noodle soup and a salmon roll. It was super yummy! We didn't get home until after 10, so I passed out right away. The next morning, I got all the music & movies off my old IPOD and transferred them all to my new IPOD (which surprisingly took a LONG time to do....it was almost 50g worth of content!). Then the boys went and picked up breakfast and we started cleaning the house. We had friends come over to celebrate her birthday - so we made BBQ Chicken, Ribs & homemade Mac & Cheese...so yummy!
We had a weekend of less than stellar food, so I am feeling a little pudgy today, but at least I know that I didn't eat at a huge deficit either - so that will be good for my metabolism. The squish will fall off after a few days of eating better & downing water like crazy. This week I'll be eating healthier - but higher calories to justify my activity levels and stepping up my running training for the Warrior Dash. Its only 7 weeks away and I want to get myself as ready as I can for it.
I think that's about it for me - hope all is well with everyone!

well...crap....
Okay - so yesterday I had an "EEK/Ah-ha-you're a moron" moment that I need to share with all of you! First of all - I'm gonna establish a few background tidbits just so you all are aware of the situation. Last October, I stopped tracking my food. It was driving me neurotic...I KNOW how to eat well & set appropriate portion sizes so I decided to take the opportunity to trust myself a little more, and its been nice not having to count EVERYTHING that goes into my mouth and trust my natural hunger cues a little more. Now for the past few months, I've been trying to drop some extra pudge - just so I'm a little more comfortable in my own skin, and I don't have as much weight to push forward when I am running.
Now that you know all that - I can get on to my "ahh...crap" moment. Since I've been trying to drop my extra squish I've been noticing a pattern. I'll do well for about 3 days. Then I'll start feeling like junk, get a "f*ck it all" attitude and go eat whatever the hell I wanted - which would put me off track, cause me to gain some water weight, freak out, get back on proper nutrition until the same process happened again 3-4 days later. In all, I've been losing & gaining the same 7 pounds since New Years...some days are better than others....
This has really been bugging the hell out of me. I literally can't go a week straight with proper nutrition!! What the hell is wrong with me??? I work in the fitness industry....I should have the discipline & self control to eat well for a week straight?!?!? Right?!?!?! I have enough discipline to do 8 fitness classes a week PLUS all my personal workouts to help me reach my goals - but every few days I just can't seem to avoid that magical box of Thin Mints in my freezer...
So yesterday I did something I haven't done since October. I tracked my food...all of it....I kept my naturally almost-completely-vegetarian/vegan diet in check ALL through the work day and before my Zumba class. Now - I eat a LOT of food (yesterday consisted of 2 bananas, 2 alternative bagels with almond butter, 2 cups of purple grapes, 2 servings of oatmeal with dried cranberries, 2 grilled cheese sammiches with some egg whites for protein) - there's a TON of volume there and some days I feel like I'm eating ALL the time...so I'm rarely hungry - thus assuming I'm eating enough to justify my activity levels. You know what it was...1,441 calories....that's it
Yesterday was a Wednesday - one of the busiest days of the week for me. According to my BodyBugg, I burned 2,776 calories, went 8,176 steps and had 1 hour 37 minutes of activity (my kids are on Spring Break right now - so this burn/activity amount is actually LOWER than my usual Wednesday burns)
So let's do some math here:
2,776 Calories burned MINUS 1,441 Calories eaten = A 1,335 CALORIE DEFICIT?!?!?!? IN ONE DAY?!?!?! HOLY CRAP!!!
So - if I take into account, I've been eating mostly the same things since January and really only lost about 7 pounds in total since I started (mostly water weight anyways) let's look at this again
Every 3-4 days I potentially have created a 4,000-5,340 calorie deficit with my basic activity levels. Logic says "INSERT METABOLIC FREAK OUT HERE" and my body suddenly NEEDS calories to maintain my levels, otherwise I'll crash. Well no sh*t - no wonder I can't stick with anything for more than a few days. Its not a discipline thing, its not a lack of self control...its a "Hillary is STARVING" thing and suddently my body craves crappy foods because it knows that's the fastest way to get calories back up. And in all honesty - when I did eat crappy, I never ate enough to completly destroy my deficits, which is why I saw around a 7 pound loss but still struggled with water weight
NOW it makes more sense (and I'm kicking myself for not doing this sooner) so now, I will look at myself in the mirror....take my palm....and smack against forehead while saying "feed yourself more dammit!"
So - now I have a confession. After my Zumba class, when I realized how bad my deficit was, I got myself a burger & fries for dinner...and it was damn good. And honestly, I probably ended up right at maintenance calories - or a little bit over, but I really don't care. I've got water weight today...eh...it will fall off....at least I ate what I needed to
Alrighty - so what does this all mean. This means I need to start tracking my calories again so I don't starve myself. But I need to do this with a "health" reason in mind and not let myself get neurotic about it again (easier said than done, but I'll do my best) I can eat 2,000 calories a day and STILL be at a 600-700 calorie deficit each day - unless I'm a total lazy ass and don't do anything then my maintenance is between 1800-2000 cals a day
This also means I need to find healthier ways to get my calories up without eating junk. Due to digestive issues, I've gotta take it easy on high fat foods so I've gotta take it easy on the dairy, nuts, nut butters, etc & I naturally really don't eat a lot of meat - so after work, I'll be venturing to get myself some Lara Bars & easy non-dairy mix-n-go smoothies to help get my calories a little higher...then as long as there's nice weather, I shall go running! YAY!
With my activity levels & amounts of cardio I do, I'm technically in the range of an "endurance athlete" with my burns - so I'm going to pick up my copy of Racing Weight and learn how to eat more without causing havoc to my insides. The theory in this book is to eat around maintenance and use my workouts to create the deficit - instead of eating at a deficit and potentially causing workouts & the body to suffer. I think there's some good logic there, and its about time I implement it.
Anyways - so there's my genius moment...I was trying to trust myself more, gain the discipline to eat without tracking, "ruining" it every few days & freaking out. Now I will be doing the same, only tracking it and hopefully not going to ruin it again (NOTE: the girl scout cookies are ALMOST gone from the house! There's only 1 box of Samoas left - and they belong to the hubby so hopefully they'll be gone soon)

I Accomplished One Of My Resolutions!!
YAY!!!! First of all - HAPPY FRIDAY EVERYONE!!! This has been a LONG week for sure!!! I'm totally happy its Friday AND payday (for me at least) *does little happy dance* Okay - so as my title states...I accomplished one of my New Year's Resolutions!!! This one has been over TWO years in the making and I'm SO proud to say I completed it!!!!
This was was Resolution #6 - FINALLY DONATE MY HAIR!!! As some of you know, I've been growing it out (and not dying it) for a LONG time so that I could make a donation to Pantene Beautiful Lengths. Its an organization that makes wigs for cancer patients and it was an honor for me to be able to make a contribution to them!!
After work yesterday, I went to get it measured and it was FINALLY long enough! Its been super windy here, so the length has been driving me nuts because I've had to pull it back every day - otherwise I'd look very much like David Bowie from Labyrinth! I high-tailed it over to the salon and chopped it all off right there!!!
So - here's my "before" donation picture - just so you can get an idea of the length prior to donation...this is the longest my hair has been in a LONG time. I had over 8 inches of hair to donate (which was the minimum required length).
After getting my hair cut, I went home to see the hubby (he got out of work early) and start getting used to my new lack of hair - I swear my head feels like its 10 pounds lighter today!).
SO - here's the final result...a new haircut for me!!!!
I had one after school class that day, so before going to my ZumbAtomic class yesterday afternoon, I stopped by the hair dye store to pick up some goodies (since now that its cut I can start dying it again) While I was checking out, I mentioned to the cashier at the beauty supply store that I had just cut it all off to make a donation. The woman was SO thankful and appreciative of what I'd done. She said that she regularly gets women coming in who have received wigs with the program and so it has a personal connection to her. Just thinking about how my little blonde donation could impact someone's life - well, it actually makes me kind of girly, teary-eyed and sniffly.
Even though I KNOW I complained more than once about growing out my hair, not being able to cut or dye it, pulling it back in a ponytail every day, etc - its NOTHING compared to what someone with cancer is going through. I have NO right to complain about anything in my life when someone else is fighting for each day they have. Someone out there who is fighting cancer is going to make a beautiful blonde!
This originally started out as a silly bet from my hubby (he bet me I couldn't go a year without dying my hair) and it turned into the most incredible experience that spanned over 2 years of my life. The last time I dyed my hair was December 24th 2009 - so this has been a labor of love for the past few years and one of the most incredible experiences ever. Its forced me to become more comfortable in my own skin and not rely on a box of hairdye to fix whatever is going wrong in my head. Its pushed me out of my comfort zone on more than one occasion - and those experiences are truly impossible to put into words.
Since my haircut, its honestly crossed my mind a few times to NOT dye my hair, keep growing it out and donate it again, simply because of the impact this first experience has made on me. I know its just hair - but you know what...for some people, it makes the difference between feeling normal and feeling like an outcast and I can help change that.
I'm still toying around with the idea of dying it. Its been a long time, and I would like to play around with colors while I'm still younger. It would take me another year and a half (at least) to grow it out long enough to make another donation. And honestly, I'll probably end up dying my hair this afternoon - with the understanding that if I ever wanted to do this again, I have the wisdom, appreciation, self acceptance and patience to go through the waiting process again.
Thanks for letting me share this experience with you all - its really meant a lot to me to be able to help someone out (I'm seriously getting all sniffly at my desk! EEP!) Remember there are people out there who are suffering more than you ever will. And just a special request from me, take some time today to focus on all the gifts you have in life. I hope you all have an amazing Friday.

Back At It...
Alrighty - so after finishing my 10,000 Kettlebell Swing Challenge I decided to take a few days off of strength training. I needed to focus on a new Zumba circuit for class (which I rolled out on Saturday morning) so most of my free time was spent recovering and getting that ready to go.
This past week was awful for nutrition (we have a surplus of Girl Scout Cookies in our house at the moment) BUT weight is magically maintaining. Had a doctor's appointment on Friday and got my bloodwork done & got on my new type of birth control. Hope it goes well *fingers crossed*
Today marks exactly 2 months until the Warrior Dash - so training began today! Yippee!!! I haven't ran in a LONG time, so I was antsy to get back at it. I snuck over to the gym on my first break at 7am and hit the treadmill. OH LORDY I MISSED RUNNING!! I know I say it every time - but running is SO amazing for me! I took it easy and ran a nice 12 minute mile just to get back into the groove and it felt incredible.
Nutrition has been on track today as well and energy levels are starting to come back up as well. For strength training, I'm starting to incorporate my Kettlebell workouts back into my routine again. Today was Chest & Back and I did it with the 15 pound bell instead of the 10 pounder - proof that the 10,000 swing challenge made me stronger!! I only had to drop to a 12 pound weight for the one armed Flys on the last 2 sets since my elbow wasn't taking the 15 too well. Either way, I'm happy with my progress and hopefully will get some nice DOMS tomorrow from it
I'm still toying with the idea of using the Warrior Dash training program for strength training too - I'm thinking that just incorporating Kettlebell into my current routine of Running and Zumba will help me get stronger all over....so I think I'll stick with this for a week and see how it goes.
I really want to start running outside (even though it will kill me) and get up to a 4 mile distance in about 6 weeks. Should be tough, but do-able. Anyways, off to go heat up my lunch (whole wheat pasta, veggies & tomato sauce!) Tonight is Zumba and hopefully I'll be able to snag a nap in the middle of it all - after grocery shopping of course...gotta stock up on stuff for this week!
As I stated in my NY Resolution earlier this year - I want to run towards something this year...not run from my issues anymore. I want to get closer to a better me, and this is one of the ways to help create a healthier mindset.

Swings at Work
Okay - knocked out 250 swings with the 15 pounder before I hopped on a conference call today. I can definitely tell the difference between the 10 pounder and 15 pounder. I'm stronger than I was before, so it was easier to move - but it hit my muscles in a different way which was nice. Not sure if I'll be able to get any more done before I leave, if I don't the rest will be done at home later today before class. Since I don't have my Bugg on - I guessed calorie burn based on prior burns

Happy Monday (kind of)
Alrighty peeps - its Monday again! I had a great lazy day yesterday and definitely could have had a few more lazy days before coming back to work today. After my 1,000 swing accomplishment on Saturday - my body was WIPED out yesterday. I was only able to do another 200 swings before my body just said "nope"

This morning, I had a long-needed appointment with my endocrinologist. Its been a while since I got my bloodwork done and I wanted to make sure everything is working okay. I passed all the physical tests and he ordered a full thyroid screen for my bloodwork that should be back on Wednesday. He also suggested that I change the type of birth control I'm on - since that could be having an adverse impact on my thyroid & weight issues. *fabulous* So now I have an appointment on Friday with my primary care physician to get a full physical and get a different type of birth control.
I feel like a total space cadet today as well. I managed to pack myself breakfast & lunch and get all my information ready for my doctor's appointment. However, I totally forgot to grab my 10 pound kettlebell AND I forgot to put on my BodyBugg again this morning....*grumble* Anyways, I'm out of work in a few hours, meeting a friend for a little training session after work, then I'll be able to get home and relax a little before Zumba.
I have to do 625 swings today and 625 swings tomorrow to reach my goal before Wednesday. I'm off work on Wednesday and don't think I'll have any time to finish it then, so I want to make sure I'm finished beforehand. I have my 15 pound kettlebell here at work today, so I will see how many swings I can do with that one while I'm at work today. Hopefully it won't be too taxing on my system - considering I had bloodwork done and I've got Zumba class tonight
I'll update this later with any swings that I get done today! I wish I sat in a quiet corner of the office so I could swing at my desk and not have to worry about it...but I'm in the corner of a glorified "fishbowl" and everyone can see me! haha! I'll sneak away to the gym in a few minutes and hopefully knock a few hundred out without an issue.

Kick Ass Saturday!
Alrighty - didn't get any swings done yesterday. Was a lazy brat in the late morning/early afternoon then had ZumbAtomic in the afternoon as a make-up class. After class, hubby and I went to the Casino for a Date Night. We ate dinner at a killer steakhouse and won $100 on the slot machines! SCORE!!
This morning, had Zumba class which was awesome! Had an initial fit test with a new personal training client, then went to a fabulous lunch - pasta with shrimp, broccoli, mushrooms & sundried tomatoes! YUM!! The afternoon was spent rearranging the living room/dining room with the hubby. The treadmill is now in the dining room area - hopefully that goes well. I wanna run on it to try it out and see how it goes!
Once that was over, I put together a new circuit for Curves and tomorrow I get to practice that for a hopeful rollout next Saturday morning (if not Wednesday). I put some fun songs on it, so I hope it will be a super fun mix!!!
Then - hubby and I decided to catch up on DVR stuff in the evening. So we watched last week's episode of FaceOff (love that show!) and are now catching up on The Voice. During FaceOff, I decided to not be lazy - so I grabbed my kettlebell and ROCK OUT 1,000 SWINGS!!! YES!!! 1,000 SWINGS!!! Holy hell that was a lot!! Oddly enough, I was on such a roll that I *could* have kept going, but I wanted to take some time to relax and then eat dinner (i.e. leftovers from lunch! haha!)

I've only got 1,450 Swings left!!! I'm looking forward to finishing this challenge and starting my Warrior Dash training!! I also can't wait to see how much stronger I am in my regular strength training after this challenge. I'm thinking I can easily go up to the 15 pounder in my regular Kettlebell workouts which is gonna be awesome
That's about it for me - tomorrow is lots of Zumba and hopefully a ton more swings. Maybe if I do some in the morning and evening I can finish my 1450 remaining ones!! Woot!!

I will be a Warrior!!!!
YAY!! Happy Thursday everyone!! This week has been a toughie for me - nutrition has been off all week and my energy has been totally zapped. I survived my classes yesterday but when I got home I went straight to bed & passed out! I was SO tired! Today I'm feeling better and hopefully the trend will continue!
The hubby and I are talking about changing our nutrition around - the plan we were on wasn't designed to last 2 months and I think we're both a little tired of it. I've always leaned towards a lower fat/protein higher carb diet because of my activity levels and known history of tummy issues - so this might work out well for me. Hubby is interested in something similar so we'll have to go grocery shopping and see what looks good
Anyways - to the reason for my title......HUBBY AND I REGISTERED FOR THE WARRIOR DASH TODAY!!!! Yahoo!!! OMG I'm SO excited!! Its going to be AMAZING!! There's a 6-7 week training program online, so we're going to start that at the beginning of March (or whenever I finish my Kettlebell swing challenge - whichever comes first!) This is going to be such a cool experience and I can't believe I get to share it with my hubby and some of my closest friends!! Its going to be incredible!!!
I was a bundle of energy today (excitement from registration I suppose) so I knocked out 825 swings without even blinking today! I could easily go do a few more, but I don't want to totally wipe myself out...I've got one class this afternoon that I still need energy for. If I manage to knock out some more swings, I'll be sure to update, but for now, I'm happy with what I've done today.
I'm noticing that my body has more power when I'm doing the swings - I feel more explosive when I'm moving upwards (if that makes any sense?!?) so I guess this challenge is doing me lots of good!! Also, ran my BF levels through a calculator today that a SparkFriend directly compared to a DexaScan & Ultrasound method (so she proved its accuracy) and it had me at a solid 23% - so all in all, I'm really pleased with that!!

Alrighty, that's about it for me!! Tomorrow is Friday & payday (YAY!) got a lazy weekend planned, only 2,450 swings left (which I'm hoping to finish by Sunday) and I got DolphinTale on Netflix - yes, I'm a sappy nerd, but I wanna watch it. Lots of good things are coming our way!!!

Quickie Update!
Alrighty - so didn't get any swings done yesterday. Worked on new Zumba choreo in the morning, was a lazy brat with the hubby in the afternoon and had Zumba class last night.
Today - back at work. It was super hard to wake up this morning, but thankfully the day is almost over. The past few days have been bad nutritionally - toying with the idea of doing a healthier "cleanse" just to drop this water weight and get some energy back. Been feeling kinda sluggish the past few days.
Anyways, knocked out 700 swings today at work - but forgot to put on my Bugg this morning so calorie burns are estimated with what I've been burning with this challenge so far.

Kick Ass Day!
Hiya peeps! How are you all? I'm doing great today! Knocked out 600 swings yesterday and had a nice dinner out with the hubby and a friend last night! Burgers & sweet potato fries! YUM!! AND a Strawberry Chocolate milkshake for dessert!! Totally killer!!
For my swings - I've started doing all 100 (1 set of each) without any rest, which has caused calorie burns to go down a little bit (since I'm getting everything done faster) but its definitely working myself harder & making me stronger. I did the same thing this morning and I think this will work well for the rest of the challenge.

This morning, hubby went to help a friend move while I went to class. They were so fabulous today! I totally whooped their butts and they loved every minute of it!!! I burned 635 calories in an hour & 12 minutes! Definitely good times! My legs were toast at the end of it!!!
After class, I went to the bank, ran some errands and came home and rocked out 400 swings today. I was going to get more done, but my knee started feeling wonky and I didn't want to push it. This rounds out 1,000 swings in 2 days so I'd say that's pretty damn good!

Alrighty, so that's about it for me. Was totally hungry after class & swings but we don't have a lot of food in the house - so ended up getting chinese food for lunch. So yummy!! We have a dinner date tonight with my mom & her husband and its going to be AWESOME!! Now, I'm going to rest a little bit, then start getting ready. I'm thinking about "girling" it up a little bit and painting my nails, doing makeup, wearing a skirt tonight. Dressing up is always fun!!

Happy Valentine's Day!!!
YAY its Valentine's Day!!! Hubby and I are both working, so nothing special going on today - but its still a good day!! First of all, I managed to wake up this morning without wounding myself...this is a plus! Shoulder feels great today!!!
Managed to avoid all but 4 bites of a cake at work - which is amazing considering there are sweets all around!! I knocked out my kettlebell swings for the day, met my goal and have 2 classes this afternoon which will be really fun!! Its amazing - in just the past two weeks of this challenge I'm noticing I'm getting stronger. I can knock out more swings on a daily basis than I could before, my back feels stronger & getting more defined, my legs & butt look better already and my arms are looking great! Can't wait to see what 2 more weeks on this will do!!!
Nutrition has been on track for the past few days and I'm downing water like crazy - so hopefully getting ready for a woosh coming up. Still holding on to some water weight from this weekend and hoping to make some more progress before the week is over. We have a fabulous Valentine's Day dinner planned for this weekend that I'm TOTALLY going to indulge in! haha!
Anyways - back to my workout for today:
Kettlebell Swings Challenge
Double Arm Swings with Squats: 8 sets of 25 reps

I HIT AND PASSED THE HALFWAY POINT!!! WAHOO!!! I'm proud of my progress with this challenge so far! Its designed to be done in only 30 days - but since its February, I'm feeling the pressure to get it done in 28 (even though its a Leap Year) - so I'm right on track with where I need to be!!
Happy Day!!! Anyways, that's it for me - time to go now! Hope you all have an amazing day!

Happy Monday!
Alrighty peeps - we are back to Monday....back to the grind as they say. Anyways, this weekend was awesome. I'm getting a much better handle on my weekend eating and its starting to pay off!
Saturday night, we went out with some friends to Olive Garden for dinner (first time I've had pasta in 6 weeks!) and it was SO good! I swear they put crack on those damn breadsticks! haha! Anyways, after that - we went to our friend's chorus performance that was totally fabulous! We made it home around 10pm and I totally passed out at that point.
Sunday, we both slept in late. We didn't roll out of bed until around 10am and met hubby's mom for breakfast/lunch at Dions. Though I really wanted pizza, I was good and got a sandwich, salad & fruit (little victory!) Then we went grocery shopping & headed home. At that point, we both felt like we were in a "purging" mood and we decided to tear apart the bedroom (and enjoyed watching some snow while we were doing it!) We are getting rid of 6 garbage bags (so far!) of stuff to donate to goodwill and we moved the furniture around so its more functional in our giant bedroom. Needless to say - we love it! We worked our tails off, but it was worth it! Now onto the rest of the house! haha!
Once that was done, we both relaxed and watched an episode of Warehouse 13 on the DVR while I installed TurboTax on our computer. Got our taxes filed (not nearly as scary as I was thinking with all my classes!) and watched "Forks Over Knives" on Netflix - great movie that really makes ya think!
When I got up this morning, I had a total YIKES moment. When the alarm went off, I reached over to hit the snooze button and I tweaked my damn shoulder! It hurt like hell! I yelped so loud I woke hubby up and it wasn't feeling very good after that. I tried streching it in the shower but it still felt funky. I've got full forward range of motion, but anything going backwards hurts like hell right where my trap meets my deltoid on my collarbone. Go me!
This morning, woke up to only a 2 pound jump in the scale after all my weekend craziness instead of my usual 4 or 5 - which goes to show how much I'm learning about what I can and can't do with my nutrition to reach my goals but still enjoy life. Gotta love it!
Since forward motion doesn't hurt, I decided to hazard my swings today. I wanted to knock out a big number today just to get ahead for the first half of the month. Even though I know I've still got a few weeks left of this challenge, the fact that tomorrow is the 14th and I'm not quite halfway through my 10,000 swings made me a little nervous this morning. I'd always rather be ahead than behind.
Anyways, glad I decided to knock out my swings today instead of resting my arm! I was feeling energetic & strong today! I rocked out a whopping 820 swings at work!! That's the most I've done in a day so far & WITH a bum shoulder!! haha!! I'm super excited!! Since my shoulder was wonky and I don't want to risk injury - I took the swings a little slower, held them longer at shoulder height and really felt it all through my back today! I'm SO Thrilled!
Kettlebell Swings Challenge

No Squat Swings: 8 sets of 25 reps

Calories Burned: 261 calories

It is my goal tomorrow to surpass the halfway point in this challenge and it will be downhill from there for the rest of the month!!! Anyways, that's about it for me. Almost done with work, then home to eat some food and relax before Zumba tonight. Gotta love Mondays!!!

A Great Way To Start The Day!!!
Alrighty - so hubby and I had a kick ass date night yesterday. He took me to see "The Woman In Black" and it was amazing! We shared a popcorn and then went to dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings after!! As a testament to how far we've come with our eating, we ordered the amount of food we used to, BUT this time we ended up bringing most of it home!! We shared an order of fried pickles, I had a few fries and only 9 wings!! Go us!! Surprisingly - even with all that sodium, my weight really didn't jump too much from it at all (only about 1 pound instead of the usual 3!)
We came home after that and totally relaxed last night & watched some stuff on Netflix. I got a great night's sleep before getting up and going to class this morning. OMG Saturday classes are AMAZING and I'm so glad that we picked up those classes again!! I scorched 635 calories during Zumba this morning and had a blast doing it! We had 4 newbies in class today, so its always killer to have new people in class!!
After that, I came home and found hubby still sleeping - he's been popping DayQuil all week and hasn't been feeling 100%, so I decided to let him sleep and use the time to knock out my kettlebell swings for the day!! So I put on the Science Channel (yes, total nerd remember??) and rocked out 505 kettlebell swings before calling myself done for the day. I could have done more, but I didn't necessarily need to and now its already noon - so I don't want to spend the WHOLE day working out! haha!
So now - here's the workout for the day
Kettlebell Swings Challenge
Double Arm Swings with Squats: 5 sets of 25 reps (and then 5 extra to make an even number completed so far)
Single Arm Swings (Right) with Squats: 5 sets of 25 reps
Single Arm Swings (Left) with Squats: 5 sets of 25 reps
No Squat Swings: 5 sets of 25 reps
Total Swings for the Day: 505 Swings
Calories Burned: 225 calories
Total Time: 36 minutes
Once I was finished - I decided to treat myself to a great stretch and roll out on the foam roller. OMG its been so long since I rolled out on the foam roller and it HURT!! It was all a happy pain, but still pain nonetheless. I feel so much better after that...my whole body feels like jello!
The plus to knocking out my workouts already - I'm already at 1830 calories burned for the day, 6559 Steps and 2 hours 21 minutes of activity and its only noon!!! Gotta love killer burn days on the weekend!!!
I think that's about it for me!! Happy Saturday of Zumba, Swings & killer rollouts. Now off to shower, eat some breakfast then venture forth for our fabulous plans for the day!! I hope you all are having as great a Saturday as I am so far!!!

Happy Friday!!
Wahoo!! So its Friday!!! I only had to work 4 hours today - gotta love it when the boss lets us leave early!!! I knocked out 200 swings on my first break at work today and am not sure if I'll get any more today or not.
I came home and was totally in the mood to work out - but didn't feel like doing any more swings. So I put in the BBL DVDs that I borrowed from a coworker and rocked out the Basics & Bum Bum workouts. Holy Glutes, Batman!! That was a fun little workout! Perhaps I'll keep that in the rotation for the future! Burned through 300 calories in 43 minutes - not bad for cardio/strength training.
Tonight, date night out with the hubby - we're planning on going out to dinner and having a fabulous night! Until hubby gets home from work, I'm gonna be nice & lazy and catch up on "Vampire Diaries" on the DVR.
Anyways, that's about it. Kind of a nice boring day and I'm loving every minute of it! Might get more kettlebell swings...might not....we'll just see how the day goes from here! We've got a fabulous weekend planned so I'm looking forward for a little bit of downtime

Crazyb*tch!!
First of all - thank you to Buckcherry for coming on during my swings today. Rockin' out to Crazyb*tch was just fabulous (also thanks to H.I.M., Fuel, Avenged Sevenfold, Good Charlotte & Muse for making an appearance as well!!) Before I get onto today's awesomeness - I need to go over yesterday's drama....
Yesterday, I had a minor freak out - thankfully only the hubby got the brunt of it and no one else got to enjoy my wrath. I have been on this eating plan for about 6 weeks now and I've been losing & gaining the same 6 pounds the whole time (weekends are my downfall). I am trying to get better at it, but it was frustrating to not see any progress.
So I totally vented to him yesterday, he tried to make me feel better - because he's so fabulous, I drank some caffeine, took a nap then magically felt better. Anyways, after all that girly drama, I woke up today and dropped another 2 pounds for a total loss of 9 pounds since I started!! Go figure! I'm the lowest I've been in months and definitely back on the right track! Maybe I should throw a drama fit more often :-P
Anyways, before my Zumba class yesterday - I got bored and managed to snap a really cool photo of myself. My eyes are naturally hazel with a lot of green & blue in them, but most of the time the brown overtakes the green in the photos(unless there's really good lighting) - so needless to say, I was SO excited when I snapped this pic of myself! Would have been better if I'd been smiling, but still - I like the pic a lot!
Hello Green Eyes!!!
OH - remember that 3rd pair of earrings I got for Christmas but forgot to take pics of...I'm wearing them here...aren't they fun??
Anyways, after being cranky most of the morning, taking a nap, snapping a cool pic of my eyes and ultimately feeling better, I headed off to my first of 3 Zumba classes for the day. In case some of you aren't aware, I teach Zumbatomic (i.e. Zumba for kids) for an after school program in my city. So my first class of the day was at an elementary school and was super fun. I only had the older kids yesterday since the younger ones were in a "presentation" in the next room over. Little did I know, an ambassador from our local zoo was there with some critters!!!
SO - when Zumba was over, I ran next door and he let me see some of his animals!! They were so awesome!! First of all, some of you might not think this is a big deal...but I have NEVER seen an armadillo up close before. And OMG it was the cutest little cantaloupe with legs that I've ever seen!!! If it wasn't totally cruel to keep a wild animal - I'd totally want one as a pet!!!
Seeing the armadillo totally *MADE* my day so much better!! THEN - the guy opened up a cooler and let me see this -
BABY CROCODILE!!! AHH! So fun!!!
Anyways, needless to say I was in a fabulous mood throughout the rest of my day. The rest of my Zumba classes went great and I slept really well! It rained last night and I always sleep better when it rains! AND I woke up to my lower weight (as I said before) - so overall its a great day!!
Just for a little update - as of this morning I was at 2,000 swings into my "10,000 Kettlebell Swings Challenge" and I totally ROCKED it today at work!! I'm really enjoying this challenge and already seeing some great muscle definition changes in my back - woot!! I snapped some pics of my back yesterday and OMG I'm seeing lots of awesome muscle bumps back there!! Can't wait to see the changes in the next few weeks!!
So back to today's awesomeness....not sure what got into me, but I had BOUNDLESS energy today (and I'm still kinda bouncing off the walls a little bit) and I got 725 swings done at work today!!! 725 SWINGS!!! EEP!!! Definitely excited about that!! I got 125 done on my first break, 400 done on lunch and the last 200 done on my last break. I feel like a bad ass! I'm really taking the time to focus on my form and I'm noticing strength improvements all over!!! I'm keeping the weight at the 10 pounder for now and probably going to keep it there for a while. With all my classes, I don't want to risk overtraining - and by correcting my form and using less momentum than I was before, I'm getting challenged by this weight again - so I'm thrilled!
